Pierre-Yves Matile
I am a Basel-based street photographer with a long-standing passion for observing everyday life, gestures, contrasts, and fleeting human moments. My photography started during travels through Asia with a Leica R6 in the early 1990s, and it has remained closely connected to curiosity, discretion, and the pleasure of walking with a camera.
Through my work under the name open-borders, I explore streets as open spaces where people, cultures, light, and chance meet. I am particularly interested in quiet scenes, unexpected compositions, and the poetry hidden in ordinary urban life.
