Luigi Giannini

I discovered my passion for photography at a young age. What began as a personal interest quickly developed into a diverse photographic practice. My early focus was on family portraits, event reportage, and concert photography, where I learned to capture decisive moments.

As a freelancer, I worked in school photography and wedding reportage, gaining valuable experience in working with people and handling a wide range of lighting situations. A defining phase in my development was the discovery of black-and-white photography—especially the hands-on work in the darkroom, which deeply shaped my understanding of contrast, tonal values, and composition.

A key turning point was my encounter with Peter Gasser. Through him and various workshops, I deepened my knowledge of large-format photography, working according to the Zone System developed by Ansel Adams. During this time, I focused on landscape and nature photography using a 4x5 inch field camera by Toyo.

In parallel, I used large-format cameras by Sinar for work in the fields of art and gallery photography, allowing for the highest level of precision and creative control.

Today, my focus is on digital black-and-white photography, with a strong emphasis on street photography. I combine my analog roots with modern techniques to capture authentic, fleeting moments in urban environments.
